John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, born in 1892, was a linguist, an author, and even served in the first World War. He eventually became a professor at Oxford University, and later wrote the infamous novel The Hobbit which was published in 1937. This novel was followed by The Lord of the Rings trilogy, later to be turned into major motion pictures. Tolkien passed away in 1973.

Tolkien's works are packed with detail, fictional languages, mythology, and maps.

Some of his lesser known works include: The Silmarillion, The Children of Hurin, The Book of Lost Tales, Farmer Giles of Ham, and many more!
